Something Lovely

Well, I thought I would give you something lovely and what can be more lovely than red shoes. Also a lovely picture of my dear friend Tessa in a yucky pond. Umm...so exciting news for my friends out there... I am moving to NEW YORK CITY. It has been our plan for a while but I did not want to say anything to curse it ( I am a little superstitious). We are moving in 22 days. Yes I am super beyond excited. We found our apartment. It is a little guy but it is super close to Central Park and it has a washer and dryer..

Road Trip

I took a little road trip last weekend. We went to antelope island...it's an island part of the great salt lake... I think?? Well, we saw buffalo there and it was awesome. Also it was the first time since last summer we drove with the top down in our convertible (granted we had the heat on high and the seat warmers on). I think I might have a new favorite animal, the buffalo (poor guy so under appreciated).

The reason this pictures color looks strange is because like a dummy I opened the back of my film camera and exposed the film. But it did not ruin the film, instead this beautiful thing happened. Nope it's not photoshop.

Last week I went to New York for Spring break. I love New York. I love people and the feeling. I have heard people say that there is an energy that you feel in BIG cities and it is true. So many amazing things happened there...

I saw the back of P-Diddy’s head.
I stood on the stairs where Jay Z sang the New York Song.
I met Rodney Smith ( if you don’t know who he is... it is essential that you google him right now.)
Things made sense. It seemed like while I was there I was not confused about anything and often I am very confused about everything. In New York there is not time to be confused. You just have to know who you are and where you are going and that is it. WHICH I LOVED.
I love Taxis, Subways, Waking, Museums, Cool paper stores, Max Brener, Nuts for Nuts, Tall buildings, People, St. Patrick’s day parades and pride, Late hours which stores are open, ENDLESS possibilities, The Plaza, Central Park, The galleries, Little Greek pastry shops, Random stores that would not survive in Utah but survive here run by little old men.

Well I love so many more things but that will be all for today. I believe this is the longest post I have ever written on my blog (I love that)

This is a shout out to my friend Tessa and her awesomeness. These pictures are exactly why I love Tessa. This is how our conversation before the photo shoot went. Me: "Hey Tessa, how do you feel about being in a baby pool in my basement? " Tessa : "That sounds cool."

Me: "Really?" Tessa: "Yeah it sounds cool." Now this is not really exactly how our conversation went but you get the just of it. Yep she is really that cool.

Oh and by the way I officially graduate in 1 month and 18 days!!!!

So I did some engagements a couple weeks ago and wow it was scary. I am so intimidated by anything wedding. Luckily I am in a wedding photography class with Jonathan Canlas (who is amazing) which has helped my anxiety a bit.

So as many of you may know or have seen. I am addicted to photoshop. It's like this little monster that gets in my head and says fix this and that. Then the image looks so over photoshopped but I can't go back. So I have acknowledged my problem and am trying to overcome it. I took these this weekend are resisted the urge.

So I had an assignment to illustrate an abstract idea or feeling. The the feeling I picked to illustrate is sprightly, which means joy, energy and vivacious( all in one word). Well needless to say, it is hard to photograph something like that.

I must admit I have a secret (well I guess now not so secret) obsession with cheesy Christmas decorations WAY after Christmas. What I do is...drive by the house a couple of times to scope it out, then stop quickly right in front of their house, jump out of my car, snap an shot of their Santa and jump back in my car. Not so stealthy and a bit awkward but man it is totally worth it for a gem like this.

I love these images so much. I think the softness and simplicity is what attracts them to me. I am a complicator... I get these grand ideas and just complicate the heck out of them, but it seems to me my best works come out of something more than intense planning, something almost serendipitous...like "Oh, let's try this" and magically it's great. ( by the way that is an extremely long run on sentence).

P.S. I wish a butterfly would randomly land on my shoulder and we would discuss the weather and become best friends and her name would be Sally and whenever I was feeling down about the weather she would come visit me and cheer me up.

I got this fortune the other day from my chinese food fortune cookie and I really liked it. I don't know if it is as much a fortune or more of a quote. So I looked up the definition of fortune. a. Fate; destiny b. A foretelling of one's destiny. I don't think it is a real fortune.

My husband and I rented the movie Paper Heart tonight and I have to say, I did not really like it. The only parts that I actuallly really did love where when they did paper puppet show. Anyways that has nothing to do with fortune I just thought you would like to know.

Film...look what I found

So the last semester of school of my life just began and it's a weird feeling( I graduate in May and am not planning on attending graduate school). I am taking a ton of classes but one of the classes that I am most excited and nervous about is a class that is all film. NO DIGITAL. I am excited but nervous because I don"t feel as secure with my film camera. So I was looking through some of my OLD pictures I took with my film camera and I found these. No they are not the most amazingly beautiful perfect pictures but I think that is part of the reason that I love them. I am ok with the fact that they are extremely grainy and the exposures are a little off... Actually I am more than ok. I love them. I think they express something more than perfection. I love the transformative power of photography. For me an image can bring me right back to that place and time when I took that picture and that's what these pictures do for me. So maybe it is not necessarily the pictures but something more. P.S. These pictures are from Virginia and Thailand (my favorite place on this earth).

Lately I have been reading this book called "It's all too much" about beating clutter and distractions in your life. Lately I really think that it is a lot easier to live a complicated life than it is living a simple one. It feels like every time there is a spare moment in my life or spare space in my house I find the need to fill it with needless junk. Well anyway that is what I have been working on during this holiday break, de cluttering my house. I am almost done... until then here is a picture of an egg.

My friend Jamie Howard did the hair. I have never used a brown background before and I was a little undecided if would ok but I actually really like it. Meat and Confusion

So a couple days ago I read the first post of my blog and realized that it made no sense. The blog does not have the time with the date posted... I was posting at 12:10am on the 11th and for some reason the silly computer still thought it was December 10( i guess it just did not want to let it go). So maybe that makes me sound a little less confused. Ha Ha Ha... I think more confusion is yet to come when you are reading this blog :) (I often even confuse myself).

This is a picture of meat...I did a still life project for one of my finals. I don't like still life's... I really just love to take pictures of people but I thought I would give it a whirl...

Garlic

This is a picture of garlic. I love garlic for so many reasons. The biggest reason is because the smell of it reminds me of my grandma (in a good way). I also love garlic because it can make anything delicious. This next week is finals and my head is spinning. AHHH! I have 3 projects to turn in and a history of photography final. After Thursday I will be home free and boy howdy I have a lot of plans most of which involve sleeping and catching up on some much needed tv time. Oh and did I mention taking pictures without any pressure....

a birthday for me and my blog

Today is my birthday... well not actually anymore. 10 minutes ago it was my birthday. All day today/ yesterday ( it kind of still is today for me since I am still awake so I will be referring to it as today even though both you and I know it is actually yesterday now) I was trying to think of something I could do for my birthday that would be different from other years( so far I have 24). Even though 24 does not seem so old to someone who is 80 it is quite old to me. Anyways...I decided I wanted to give myself a present( that sounds a little selfish) so I am starting a blog for myself as my gift. Yes I know I have officially started 2 other blogs but THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT. I don't think you realize blogging is quite scary. It's putting yourself out there for others to see, which is one of my fears. So I am doing this blog for me and you may contribute too if you like. This next part is really for me but you can listen too.

This is a pact with myself for my birthday... I promise to blog at least twice a week and put myself and my photography out there in the world.
